FEMA has make a decision to not stop its National Flood Insurance Plan in regards in to making claims for Huricane Irene in North Carolina until January 23 of 2012. This would also include a continuation of its hotline which is (855) 336-2002 and is particulary useful for those that need assistance and have questions on the process. When calling in FEMA would like folks to have their details ready including policy #, who the insurance company is and contact details for the broker and adjuster.
The reason why this action was taken was because people affected by Irene have a had a hard time in furnishing the necesarry documents in this case a proof of loss. There are more than 11o, ooo policies in North Carlolina that could potentially be filed on in damaged areas by the recent hurricane.
NC is where the storm initially hit but other areas received extensive damage due to Irene. This extension would be good in other states as well.
