One Municipality in new Jersey is breaking form the norm and getting their health insurance from a private carrier because the expense is less.  This instead of continuing with the current program which is operated by the state.  NJ.com is running this story, click here for more.  The fact that this municipality is being savvy with their health coverage deserves praise because doing this will save money which should benefit local tax payers.

Look out employers in New Jersey, it looks like you can expect to spend more on your workers compensation insurance next year in 2012.  Check out more about this on njspotlight.com.  Looks like the projected increase is sizable which is definately ashame as the business climate in the state is already difficult to say the least.

An auto insurance company that does business in New Jersey raised a bit of funding for cancer research.  They contributed a fixed dollar amount per quote requested from brokers to the cause during a few weeks in the autumn time this year.  To read more from newswise.com about this go here.  Seems likes a good way to give to a good cause and hopefully other insurers will be inspired to participate in a program like this.

New Jersey Insurance News: Irene, Homeowners Look Out and a Rating Change

A few interesting New Jersey insurance notes:

The National Flood program will continue to except claims/proof of loss from destruction due to the worst Hurricane the state has seen in years, Irene.  Residents now until January 23 of the new year (2012) to get everything submitted.  Call 1(888) 379-9531 or go to floodsmart.gov  for more details.

Look out, homeowners insurance is on the rise in NJ as the 2 largest will be or are about to increase premiums.  Strange as this may be the hurricane and out of the ordinary snow storm experienced in October are supposedly not contributing reasons for the price up ticks.  Garden state residents have enjoyed lower rates on this type of coverage versus those in other states which is definetly not the case as far as car insurance goes.  For more on the rate increases check out this link.

One financial rating company has made an update on its view of the carrier known as IFA.  Their outlook has changed in way that may not be considered positive.   They have made an effort to navigate the state’s tough auto insurance market but have more to do from an underwriting perspective.  For more on this more go here.  IFA is based out of the Clark, New Jersey  and has been around since the year 1972 and provides coverage to more than 30,000 vehices in the gardent state.

NJ Protect Health Insurance

For those in New Jersey that have no health care insurance and have pre-existing conditions there is a new place to turn.  This new program is called NJ Protect.  It has the financial backing (or in other words is subsidized) of the federal government so the associated premiums may be competitive.  A key component or feature of this program is that one is covered on their pre-existing conditions from the start.  Other notes to be aware of regarding this offering include:

  • There are a few different plans to choose from
  • The NJ Protect has 4 eligility requirments
  • Applications are filed directly with one of the 2 participating insurors who are: Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield and AmeriHealth of New Jersey
  • Contact these carriers to see if your doctor is in network and what is covered as such versus out of nework
  • Children will also be considered in being admitted to the program if they meet requirments
