So how is technology coming along in the auto insurance realm?  Well it looks like one carrier is working on an app for the Iphone that actually focuses on making the process of purchasing coverage easier.  See more at website: insurancenetworking.com by clicking on this link.  Other carriers should pay close attention to this or otherwise may lose ground in the future.  Advancements like this will make it easier to shop around for consumers and should increase competition in an already competitive industry.

Auto Insurance: Low Income Paying More, Opera Singer gets Paid and More

Posted on in Auto Insurance

Do families that don’t have a high level of household income end up expending more for their car insurance than others?  The NY Times looks in to the issue (click here) and sites data by the Consumer Federation of America.  Apparently those on the lower end of the scale as far as education levels and were employed in positions that didn’t require much in the way of skills had to dish out more for coverage.  This article brings up some issues and mentions data that is definately worth a look.  In the end after reading this I do think that getting coverage needs to be more affordable for folks with smaller salaries.

Is getting coverage for a car in the State of Texas exspensive? We apparently it getting more expensive all the time with it now being one the more costly states. Posted on in Auto Insurance

Could buying auto insurance for rental cars be worth it at times?  Fox News is exploring the subject at this link.  There are somethings to keep in mind before opting out like finding out if your carrier covers you if you get in an accident with a rental.  This article presents some evidence for really thinking seriously about purchasing the coverage that would would make me think twice before declining.

Big insurer Chubb had a good quarter besting what analysts projected and has decided that it is going to buy back shares of its stock.  Bloomberg Businessweek reports on it at this link.  Chubb employees over 10, 000 people and offers many lines of coverage like auto insurance, marine, commercial and various other lines.

The first story on this page touched on rental car insurance and below is a video that list some reasons why its worth consideration.

Auto Insurance News: Louisiana, NC, and a Company Turns 10

Posted on in Auto Insurance

Louisiana has the highest auto insurance premiums in the whole country.  Wiredprnews.com is running a piece on this subject pointing out details from a report giving us an idea why this is.  See the article here.  A lot of it has to due with the number of claims filed for various reasons and I almost feel bad for those that are good drivers there.

Nationwide weighs on the situation in NC with the debate on changing laws and regulations that are in effect currently in the state.  See the story at marketwatch.com by navigating here.  It appears Nationwide is not in favor for changing things and others aren’t either including the commissioner of North Carolinas ins. department.  Well NC has one of the cheapest averages in the nation for what consumers are paying for auto insurance so maybe there is good reason to oppose the changes being proposed.

Insurance King turns 10 years old and this story is going on at SBwire and can be checked at over at this link.  One of the founders speaks about his own experience as a teenager in looking for auto insurance coverage which inspired him to start the company.  I say good for them for having that kind of motivation in identifying a problem many have and creating a solution.  Congrats to them for 1o years.  They are known for their commercials one of which can be seen below.

Auto Insurance: Texting Leading to Higher Premiums, Adding Occasional Drivers and More

Posted on in Auto Insurance

Distractions that take a drivers eyes or mind off the road (for instance texting while driving) are being found to increase auto insurance premiums.  See the story by clicking here. Reseach has been done that indicates that the number of serious incidents due to being distracted by the cell phone have increased dramatically in the last few years.  Carriers pay attention to this and are not surpisingly bumping up rates.  I think that while many states and the NTSB have been addressing the issue of using cell phones in vehicles but there is more work to be done to come up with a viable solution.

A good question about auto insurance and adding on people like girlfriend or boyfriends to a policy is being addressed at Nasdaq.com and can be seen at this link.  There are times when people that don’t live in one’s house should be added and this article gives some good insight into this type of scenario.

In the state of Michigan there is debate and proposed law changes regarding rules on auto insurance in the state.  This is about the issue of no fault and specifically the related PIP coverage associated to it.  Read on here for a view on what the difference between changing and the currrent system is as well as the arguments on both side to this.  Whatever they decide to do I hope they make the right choice with this as it looks like their is no going back once the law is enacted.

Auto Insurance: Risky Cars, Premiums in NJ Going Up, Lowest States for Coverage

Posted on in Auto Insurance

So does your auto insurance carrier think that the automobile you are driving is a risk?  There is more to it than you may realize and companies may use data to figure out risk that many are not aware of.  See more on this by going here.  This article is a good read and is like an insiders view of information that I don’t normally see out there.

Ouch NJ.com is reporting (link) that auto insurance premiums in New Jersey are headed higher.  This in a state where residents already pay one of highest average costs for policies in the nation.  The article gives insight on why this is happening.  Being a New Jersean myself I’m not shocked about this and I’m sure neither are my fellow residents.  Not many of us will be happy of having to pay more for coverage as we are already being overburdened with excessive costs for everything else like for instance property taxes.

So which states are lucky enough to be considered the lowest in auto insurance costs in the US?  Find out in an article by webwire.com which can be seen here.  I can’t say that I’m that surprised of who this list is comprised of (with one exception).  For the most part they don’t have as many cars per square mile as the highest paying states or areas like for instance New Jersey and Washington D.C.  Nor have they been subject to devastating hurricanes (on the scale of Katrina and Rita) in the last 10 years like Lousiana has.

Below is a video of a commercial with a little humor to lighten things up a little

Auto Insurance: Shop Around, Reform Talk in Florida, Jobs In Cleveland

Posted on in Auto Insurance

Are you taking advantage of shopping around for auto insurance?  Making sure to look at quotes side by side from a bunch of different insurers with the same level of coverage.  Read the full story from The Salt Lake Tribine by going to this link.  There a few good related ideas being explored there.

Car insurance reform in Florida has been a hot topic lately.  Orlando Sentinal is discussing the subject which can be seen by clicking here.  They bring up the idea of making people that are injured in an accident visit the emengency rooms to get help and get examined.  Actually this seems like a good idea because it should ideally deter scamsters from taking advantage of system.  They should know that they aren’t going to get away with fabricating some injury like they can with some other institutions doing business in the state.  The story makes a viable related recommendation which can be seen there (I put a link to it at the start of the pargraph).

News Channel 5 reports that the carrier Progressive is looking to employee over 3 hundred new people in the Cleveland area.  They are offering positions in a few different different departments plus will provide benefits.  Nice to see a story like this these days as the news on jobs for what seems like years on end has been anything but positive.

Auto Insurance: Getting Quotes, Monthly Payment and More

Posted on in Auto Insurance

When shopping around for auto insurance quotes its important to compare quotes from several different sources.  Getting quotes directly from carriers is good but sometimes one will find that aggregators (sites that get several quotes from many carriers in one place) can work as well.  One example can be seen by clicking here.

Are you paying more for your auto insurance because you’re paying your premiums monthly?  Well it might be costing you more than you realize.  Fox Business is runing the story which can be seen by clicking here.  Wow they site an example of one person paying a lot more because they are making payments monthly.  I have to say I wish carriers would only charge their customers a nominal fee at most for taking care of their premiums monthly.  A few dollars extra for every payment is fair but not $10 or even $20.

Lawmakers in the state of North Carolina are examining how carriers are coming up with how much they charge their customers for auto insurance coverage.  Read on here  There are apparently a few ideas being proposed especially as it pertains to the high risk pool and regulations in NC.  There are strong arguments on both sides and it looks like right now too many people are paying too much but on the other hand if the regulations get remove will it give carriers too much leeway in bumping up premiums?

Below is a creative conversation that may make you laugh *warning some may find its language offensive.
